The Rural Electric Management Development Council (REMDC), established in 1958, is an organization for EC managers that seeks to improve the operational effectiveness in rural electric systems. Each of their 50 plus member rural electric systems adhere to modern management techniques and are willing to share their successes and failures with others. s. Their mission and organization is very similar to the efforts of CLN – our new organization established to provide new business models and networking for individual electric cooperative directors throughout the nation.
Please take time to look at their website as we continue to reach out and provide information about organizatoins like REMDC. Quoting from their web posting, REMDC stresses the importance of maintaining cooperative principles:
The REMDC membership reflects a size and demographic profile of the rural electric program of the 21st century. We feel strongly that the challenges to today’s rural electric systems are best met by a highly skilled management team comprised of board members who understand and are trained in the practice of their trusteeship responsibilities, plus a highly skilled, professional manager, management staff and a competent, informed and motivated work force who have a vision and commitment to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing business climate in which rural electric systems must function.
Today’s rural electric system needs leadership and vision that recognizes not only the diversity of needs and interests that exist nationally among rural electric systems, but also the diversity of needs and interests that exist locally among consumers.

It’s very exciting to meet this group and I look forward to learning more about their activities and working together. It appears that their objectives and membership align nicely with those of CLN.
